Jim Heupel is a nationally award-winning photographer whose primary focus is nature and wildlife photography. After nearly 27 years in the Air Force, Heupel launched his second career as a professional photographer in 2007 following several years of serious digital photography and a lifelong experience with film photography. Heupel's intent is to share the beauty of this world with others who haven't had the opportunity to personally experience it. With wildlife, he tries to show in an artistic way the intimate, sensitive aspects, emotions and interactions often not seen by the public who don't have the time or patience to observe them.
Heupel had successful major shows at the RS Hanna Gallery in 2014 and 2016, and the Agave Gallery (which also carried his work) in 2015, both in Fredericksburg, Texas. Heupel was awarded the Judges Choice Award in the 2016 North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) international juried competition. Several images have been selected as Showcase Winners in NANPA competitions over the past several years. His images are in private collections in Europe, Africa, and the United States.
Heupel has studied and traveled extensively with Canon Explorer of Light, Arthur Morris., and has studied with master printers Charles Cramer and Michael Reichmann. He has photographed on all continents of the world, and both above the Arctic Circle and below the Antarctic Circle. He is currently president of the Boerne Professional Artists.
